FAQ

What is Attunement?

"When we attune with others we allow our own internal state to shift, to come to resonate with the inner world of another. This resonance is at the heart of the important sense of “feeling felt” that emerges in close relationships. Children need attunement to feel secure and to develop well, and throughout our lives we need attunement to feel close and connected.” -Dan Siegel

What is Holistic Speech Therapy?

In a holistic speech therapy approach, we believe it is impossible to separate a child's speech and language development from all other aspects of their development including a secure attachment to caregivers, a feeling of being whole/complete/enough as they are, community/connection, nervous system regulation/stress, sleep, nutrition, detox pathways, emotional health, physical health, sensory regulation and more. We are trained in traditional speech therapy approaches but have also sought out many additional training such as integrative nutrition coaching, parent coaching, picky eating/feeding therapy and many more in order to support the whole child and family unit. We deeply believe supporting the family system in building a strong foundation is where change and progress occurs.

What is Parent Empowerment Coaching?

We believe parents know their children best and have the intuitive knowledge inside of them to make the best decisions for them. Fear, outsourcing our inner knowing and self limiting beliefs can often cloud the clarity we seek when we are making decisions for our kids. Parent Empowerment coaching is a supportive container where we will work through any blocks, self limiting beliefs, establish routines to get in touch with our inner knowing. We can help support you through making decisions about schools, diet, routines, intentionally building a team to support your child and much more!

Why choose Attunement Holistic Speech Therapy?

We believe there are profound limitations and blindspots in the traditional speech therapy model of dropping your child off for 1-2 hours a week with a clinician. This may help in some small ways but to make true change; we need more practice and a strong foundation (just like anything! learning a new language, an instrument, going to the gym, etc.). We work differently than the standard speech therapy approach because we want long term, lasting success where the whole family feels better equipped to work with & support their neurodivergent child. We believe parents/caregivers who are with the child most often are the key to change and we want to support that. We first want to establish trust, connection and convey to our kids that they are whole, complete and enough as they are right now. We do not believe that children are right where they are supposed to be in this moment. They are not broken. We work outside of the box and we operate from a strength based lens and always assume competence. We prioritize connection over compliance. We want to get curious about everything our kids do and always assume there is good reason for it (there always is, we just have to dig a little bit!). We want to look at all areas of our client's lives and develop a plan to support them so they feel their best. We want our clients to feel intrinsically motivated to communicate and intrinsically motivated to eat. We want positive associations with people, communication and food as often as possible. We want to promote independence as often as we can. We want to reduce the “pressure” so that communicating, socializing, connecting and eating is FUN and EASY.
